Tyee Poll: Do you support moving to a more proportional electoral system in Canada?

In the last federal election, the Conservative Party earned 100 per cent decision-making power with only 39 per cent of the popular vote. Similarly, in the recent B.C. election, the BC Liberals earned a majority of legislature seats with only 45 per cent of popular vote.

In more proportional electoral systems, a party that earns 30 per cent of the vote earns roughly 30 per cent of the seats. Most voters cast ballots which help elect a representative of their sincere first choice. Unless one party earns more than 50 per cent support, parties must work together to pass policies that represent a genuine majority of voters.
