7. What are the rules of conduct for commenting on Tyee stories?

The Tyee exists to inform, enlighten and spark constructive discussion.

We ask you to reflect this spirit in your comments, to relate your comments to the subject matter of the preceding articles, and to refrain from personal insults towards authors or other commenters.

The Tyee is not responsible for the content of posted comments.

We reserve the right to delete comments we deem vulgar, personally insulting, libelous, racist, or sexist, or for any other reason harmful to the quality of the Tyee forum. In addition, we may delete excessive postings from one commenter to give others a chance to comment. Regular violators of these rules will be blocked from further commenting on The Tyee.

Although The Tyee will attempt to apply these rules equitably and consistently, it is impossible for us to review all messages.

8. What do I do if I find a post objectionable, or am being personally targeted?

Under each comment, there is an option called "Suggest as offensive." Clicking this sends an e-mail to a Tyee editor who will review the comment and take the appropriate action. Alternatively, e-mail [email protected] and [email protected] with your contact information and a link to the comment in question.

9. Why can't I see the comment I just wrote?

First, make sure you're looking in the right location. The Best Comments tab displays by default at the bottom of each story, but all new comments go to the bottom of the All Comments tab. Second, make sure your registration is complete. When you register, our system automatically sends a confirmation e-mail that contains a link that you must click to confirm the registration. If you submit a comment before clicking this link, the comment won't display. If you are still having problems finding the comment you submitted, contact us at [email protected].

10. How does a comment become one of the Best Comments?

By being on topic, presenting fresh insights or arguments, no matter what position taken. Who decides? Tyee editors do. Certainly, we will be guided by your recommendations. That is why we gave you the power to make them. But the decision ultimately falls to us.
