andrea bennett is a National Magazine Award-winning writer and a senior editor at The Tyee.

With David Beers, they are the co-editor of The Tyee’s essay anthology, Points of Interest, which spent 21 weeks on the BC Bestseller list.

They are the author of six books, including Hearty: On Cooking, Eating and Growing Food for Pleasure and Subsistence, and Like a Boy but Not a Boy, a collection of essays about gender, mental illness and pregnancy, which was a CBC Books pick for top Canadian non-fiction of 2020 and one of Autostraddle’s best queer books of that year, as well as a 2022 selection for the American Library Association’s Over the Rainbow long list.

bennett is based in the Ayjoo Mixw area of what is currently known as Powell River, B.C., where they enjoy baking, gardening and cold ocean swims. Find them on Bluesky @akkabah.
