Zak Vescera is The Tyee's labour reporter. He covers unions, labour disputes and the lives of working people in Metro Vancouver, and anywhere else in the region his reporting takes him.
Previously, he worked for three years at the Saskatoon StarPhoenix, where he led coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in Saskatchewan. His writing on topics like homelessness, HIV-AIDS and the toxic drug crisis has twice won him the Goff Penny award for young journalists, and earned him nominations for some of the country's top journalism awards. He got his start at the University of British Columbia's student paper, the Ubyssey, where one of his first proper news assignments was tracking down the source of an odd smell on campus.
He is passionate about reporting the stories of working people. If you have a story tip or suggestion, email him or reach him on Twitter at @zakvescera.
His reporting beat is made possible by the Local Journalism Initiative, a program funded by the Government of Canada. To learn more about the Local Journalism Initiative, go here.
