Stephen von Sychowski is the president of the Vancouver and District Labour Council. First elected into this role in 2018, he previously served as second vice-president starting in 2012 and as a member at large on the executive prior to that.
Von Sychowski’s involvement with the labour council began in 2004, when he joined the Young Workers’ Committee. He became a delegate to the council on behalf of MoveUP in 2007.
Before taking on the role of Vancouver and District Labour Council president, von Sychowski worked as a union representative for MoveUP, representing members in grievances and arbitrations, as well as collective bargaining. He has also held a variety of positions with other labour, community and political organizations. He is a proud member of United Steelworkers Local 2009 and an associate member of MoveUP.
Von Sychowski grew up near Prince George, B.C., where his early progressive activism and community involvement began. He moved to the Lower Mainland in 2003 and today lives with his wife, Erin, and daughter, Coraline.
