Lisa Salazar

Lisa Salazar is an author, speaker, advocate and spiritual health practitioner.

Salazar transitioned in 2008, just before turning 58. After a successful 35-year career as a freelance graphic designer, her professional life changed drastically, leading to virtual unemployment and the end of her 37-year marriage. Despite these challenges, she felt fortunate to have the support of her adult sons, siblings and extended family, as well as access to health care through Vancouver’s Provincial Health Services Authority.

Realizing that subtle transphobia affected her career, she shifted directions. Salazar pursued a new path, earning a master of arts in theology and becoming a certified spiritual health practitioner. Hired by the same health-care system that supported her transition, she now works as a hospital chaplain.

Over the last 14 years, she has delivered over 100 workshops on trans issues and caring for LGBTQ2S+ elders, advocating for dignity, inclusion and the right to thrive.
