Julie Chapman is a born-and-raised Vancouverite who now lives and works in the Downtown Eastside. She is a survivor of childhood trauma.
Chapman was a volunteer with Sex Workers United Against Violence for nine years. She is a co-author of Opioids: A Survivor’s Guide and the co-author of an academic publication on HIV-AIDS and behaviour.
She is a member of Megaphone’s Speakers Bureau, and is a published poet and writer. She has been a Megaphone vendor since 2003 and has studied journalism as a recipient of the Megaphone and Read Mercer Entrance Award at Langara College, and as a participant in the Community Journalism 101 course presented by Megaphone in partnership with SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement.
