Akhila Menon is a journalism fellow with The Tyee through Journalists for Human Right’s inaugural Enhanced Access for BIPOC Youth in Canadian Media program.

A recent graduate of the University of British Columbia’s master of journalism program, Menon previously interned with Vancouver Magazine and Ricochet.

A budding investigative journalist with a flair for social media based in rainy Vancouver, she has written on topics such as the Fairy Creek blockades of summer 2021, the housing crisis and the climate emergency from the perspective of underserved communities.

During her next few months at The Tyee, she will be writing about environmental, health and social justice issues. And maybe the occasional pop culture explainer. You can follow her on Twitter @akhilammenon.
