The Tyee was lucky enough to get tickets to the famous Vancouver Island Music Fest happening from July 10-12, and we want to share the wealth with you!

The festival, recently named as one of the Top 25 outdoor festivals in North America, has received much acclaim both for its artists and its green legacy. It employs various initiatives for waste management, including "Vancouver Island Tap Water" to reduce plastic bottle usage, community watershed mapping and litterless lunches in its kitchens. "Its nearly zero-waste," asserts Outside Magazine. "Even the plates and cutlery are compostable."

Festival attendants generally stay all three days to witness more than 200 musical performers on six stages, bringing camping gear to lounge in between sets. This year's lineup includes the likes of Arthro Guthrie, Stephen Page, Trombone Shorty and the Orleans Avenue, Enter the Haggis, Jerry Douglas, and Jane Buttnett.

MusicFest cites that while it has grown in attendance each year since it started in 1995, it has "remained true to the original vision; a rural, family friendly, and sustainable music event that puts the Comox Valley on the cultural map."

As one enthusiastic reviewer gushes, "Island Musicfest is assuredly one of B.C.'s finest festivals. Comparisons with others are futile."

To win a pair of 3-day tickets to the festivities, e-mail us with Vancouver Island Music Fest in the subject line.

Entrants will also be signed up for our weekly e-newsletter. The Tyee never rents, sells or shares its information. For more info read our privacy policy. Contest closes at noon on Tuesday; winners will be chosen in a random draw and notified via e-mail. For more details on festival location and lineup, go to http://www.islandmusicfest.com/. [Tyee]
