Call it a nostalgic gesture to a time before Twitter. Tonight we at The Tyee are inviting you to join us in a ritual that is ancient by social media measures.
Are you old enough to remember when "live blogging" a political debate was state of the art digital communal interaction? Want to give a go for old time's sake?
Here's how. Starting at 6:20 tonight, a new article will be posted in the main story position on The Tyee's home page and it's in the comments thread of that story where the conversation will begin and carry through the debate.
As the party leaders trade verbal blows, we'd be thrilled if you'd log in and chip in your reactions and analysis.
On the same thread, pitching in, you'll be joined by Tyeesters including Tom Barrett, Steve Burgess, Tom Hawthorn, Crawford Kilian, Mark Leiren-Young, Robyn Smith, Doug Ward and, blogging from the studio where the debate is being staged, Bill Tieleman and Bob Mackin.
Yes, some of them will be tweeting, too. But following the hashtag for the debate might prove too busy to find your favourite Tyee writers. Besides, why only tune into tweets when live blogging is like savouring the sounds of a good old-fashioned political debate on vinyl?
A couple of pointers: Set the comments thread on "All Comments" rather than "Best Comments" so you can read... well, all comments. And keep refreshing the story so you can see the comments as they flow in.
We'll remind you about these retro requirements tonight when we get going. Hope to see you for some classic candidates' debate live blogging.
