'Oh Christmas Tree, Correct Politically...'
Weary of your kid lecturing you on how holiday fun kills the planet? Sing along.
Local comedy duo, Local Anxiety.
Editor's note: Frequent Tyee contributor Mark Leiren-Young teamed with Kevin Crofton (the comedy duo call themselves Local Anxiety) to make a series of youtube videos spoofing the holidays. In addition to the one above, you can watch more here, here, and here. Here's how Mark says the project came about:
Kevin and I started doing 'green comedy' when we first started playing together in the '90s. We called our TV special, Greenpieces -- The world's first eco-comedy -- and as far as I can tell, it actually was. It was produced for the now defunct VTV and the now defunct Green Channel and featured guest stars like Dr. David Suzuki. It won an "EarthVision Award" from the PBS station in San Diego. When my movie, The Green Chain, was released, it ended with the Local Anxiety song, Tree Farm. The response to the song -- especially in America -- was amazing so we decided to go into the studio and record a new collection of all our eco-comedy -- updating the old stuff and adding new stuff.
Naturally, as soon as the CD was done, it hit us that we didn't have a green Christmas tune. And since this is the age of YouTube, we decided to take a shot at our first music video and for people who check out my site, we added some links to stories on greening Christmas, for people who want to go beyond the funny. ![]()
