Is anyone surprised the Montreal student protests have spawned a massive drum circle? Check out this touching video of folks of all-ages banging pots and pans to protest Jean Charest's emergency law, Bill 78, a bill designed to curb protest to the government's austerity plans.
According to the Huffington Post, "The pots-and-pans protest has its roots in Chile, where people have used it for years as an effective, peaceful tool to express civil disobedience. The noisy cacerolazo tradition actually predates the Pinochet regime in Chile, but has endured there and spread to other countries as a method of showing popular defiance."
Chile also shares with the Quebec protest a student movement against increasing student fees, one that has expressed solidarity (Todos somos quebequenses!) with the Quebec movement.
