Valentine's day is nice for lovers, but why not show our love more widely? As kids we send Valentines to family and classmates, but as adults we tend to stop (and maybe boycott the overly-marketed occasion altogether, even if we are in a romantic relationship.)
This year The Tyee -- along with our Live Local, Buy Local partners LOCO BC and Vancity -- is asking you to show some love for your favourite locally-owned businesses. And in return, you just might get lucky and win one of eight prizes worth over $2,000 altogether.
Why are we doing this?
Because The Tyee, LOCO BC, and Vancity all believe that locally owned, independent businesses are the engine that drives a resilient, creative economy. And we know that building the kind of business that customers come to trust and love is no easy task. So let's show the great ones in our communities some love, and let them know how they impact our lives.
What are the prizes?
A "total Tofino experience" at Ocean Village Resort: three nights in a studio beachfront cabin, surf rentals, and whale watching ($850 value)
A $500 Vancity Visa* Gift Card: Spend it locally and increase your impact!
Another $600 in prizes from Greens Organic & Natural Market, Modo Carsharing Co-Op, Nicole Bridger, Hip Baby, Aphrodite's Café & Pie Shop, and Rooted Nutrition.
How does this work?
Easy. Pen a quick love letter and you'll be entered to win one of the great prizes listed just above. And you can increase your chances by writing up to five separate letters for five contest entries.
Ready? Head on over to the contest page and let your love loose.
Have fun -- and happy Valentine's day from all of us at The Tyee.
