We're now a full week into our Tyee Builders drive, and almost 200 people have signed up to help boost The Tyee's reporting capacity. That's not including the notable Canadians who have signed on to help us, either. That's 200 Tyee readers who believe our independent journalism is something worth supporting.

We're thrilled with these results -- the numbers so far have us almost a third of our way to our goal of doubling our editorial coverage over the next year.

Act quickly to receive a signed book by your first choice of icon author

If you are thinking of subscribing at the $15 a month rate or higher, please be advised that you may need to hurry to make sure you get the free book signed by your favourite Canadian author. We have only so many books per author and soon you may have to settle for your second or third choice as others get there ahead of you.

We've encountered a couple of questions in the past few days. Some are answered in this nifty Frequently Asked Questions you can read by clicking here. Others we'd like to clarify right here.

One-time donations

If you'd like to make a one-time donation, we're happy to accept! We've had a few readers who have wanted to give $20 or $30 to The Tyee, while others have wanted to sign up as Tyee Builders and to pay a year's worth of $10 or $15 payments at once. (Remember, supporting The Tyee with $15 a month gets you a signed book by a Canadian literary icon.)

Whatever amount you'd like to give, if you'd like to make a one-time donation, simply email us with how much you'd like to give and we'll send you a personalized link that will allow you to donate once. We can also accept cheques.

Paying by cheque

As with the one-time donations, we're happy to accommodate whatever method of payment works for you. After all, your support means a lot to us!

We aren't set up to do direct withdrawals from your bank account. If paying by credit card each month doesn't work for you, we're happy to accept a cheque. Please make your contribution payable to The Tyee and mail it to our office at:

The Tyee
PO Box 88484
Vancouver, BC V6A 4A7

Make sure to include your return mailing address so that we can send you the tokens of our thanks that go along with being a Tyee Builder (including your choice of signed book, if you're giving $15 a month or more).

When you've dropped it in the mail, let us know by emailing us so we can keep an eye out for it.

Reminder: not tax-deductable

Just a reminder that we are not issuing charity tax receipts for your voluntary subscription. We concluded that charitable fundraising among Tyee readers incurs significant administrative costs and in other ways ties our hands regarding the journalism we can produce with your money, so in the interest of efficiency we've decided to make this a straight up ask. Every dollar you send The Tyee, we pledge goes towards making journalism.

After just a week, already 200 new Tyee Builders. We figure if we can gain 600 new Tyee Builders in the coming week or so, we'll have reached our goal of doubling our journalism budget. In the days ahead, we'll be telling you about more famous Tyee supporters while cheering you on in the hope this wave of support keeps, well, building.

Let's grow Canadian independent media together!
