What Culture Coverage Do You Want to See in the Weekender?

In the last week of November, The Tyee launched its new culture section, the Weekender. Did you catch it?

Over the past year, we heard from Tyee readers and members of local arts communities about the need for a new place to engage with the abundant creativity in this part of the world. With cuts across mainstream media affecting arts coverage, we were eager to step up to the challenge — and just in time for cosy season.

Every weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday night, The Tyee will have a different look and feel. Gorgeous visuals, smart culture writing, photo essays, videos, interviews and book reviews — a lively space for readers interested in arts and culture coverage to gather. Our hope is that the Weekender will act as a new place for readers to connect with the creative community, and for creatives to connect with our readers.

We’ll be showing off our roster of staffers like Dorothy Woodend, Christopher Cheung, Harrison Mooney, andrea bennett and Crawford Kilian. And keep an eye out for new voices, too.

In our first edition, tips for dressing up in the Pacific Northwest from menswear writer Derek Guy, the sheer bravura of Firelei Báez’s cosmic art at the Vancouver Art Gallery and the appeal and power of Taylor Swift.

As we look forward to future editions, we want to ask:

What culture coverage do you want to see in the Weekender?
