Tyee Poll: Are You Getting a Flu Shot?

Winter is synonymous with flu season, so you might’ve gotten your shot. Or maybe you plan to do so?

Or maybe not, if you agree with Bill Tieleman in his latest column that flu shots are overhyped and ineffective.

“[The pro-shot propaganda] comes not only from the medical establishment, but from pharmaceutical companies that stand to make millions in profits and the governments that pay them to inoculate Canadians with a product that is rarely more than halfway effective,” wrote Tieleman.

During the 2015-16 flu season, less than half of flu shots were effective, according to Dr. Danuta Skowronski of the BC Centre for Disease Control.

Tieleman says he does think there are some people who should be provided with the shots: those with health issues that might be complicated by the flu.

We’d like to know what you’re thinking.
