Bright ideas, the skills you need.

Next month has every chance of being extremely good for your brain. The Tyee is offering a great new roster of Master Classes, beginning Nov. 2 and running through Nov. 30. The classes range from sharpening your communications skills to crowd-funding financial support. What they all have in common is providing you the tools you need to help your organization make positive change. Even if that organization has a single member: you!

And each class is held in The Tyee's newsroom or other convivial setting, with lunch and a splash of B.C.'s finest grape derivative to keep you well-fueled.

Here's what's on offer (register for any and all by checking out the complete listing):

Connect and Engage: Communications Strategy and Trends in Public Engagement for Cause-Based Organizations. Taught by veteran communications pro Amanda Gibbs, this is a full-day program featuring the latest approaches, tools, case studies and interactive exercises to help you sharpen your external strategy and get comfortable with emerging practices. Nov. 2. More info.

The Art of Crowdfunding: Creating Your Own Campaign Narrative. Taught by filmmaker and media activist Ian MacKenzie (Occupy Love, Sacred Economics), this will demystify the world of crowd-funding and provide you with specific storytelling strategies that will help you tap into the revolution. Nov. 9. More info.

Online Video for Social Good: Stories that Change Minds. Kai Nagata, the teacher of this class, must be good. The Tyee has him making our tenth-anniversary video as we speak. Kai's seminar-style workshop offers concrete strategies for increasing the impact of your video content online. His insights -- borrowed from evolutionary biologists, corporate newsrooms, oral tradition and web metrics -- will help you rack up more hits on YouTube. But with new tools and techniques come new questions: Who are we trying to reach? What do we want them to do? And how will we measure success? Defining those goals will make your videos better, guaranteed. Nov. 16. More info.

Introduction to Web Mapping and Data Herding. Back by special request after teaching one of the most packed and praised Tyee Master Classes, digital uber-geek Hugh Stimson is a believer that there are stories in the data. You need to get them out of there, and onto a map, preferably on the web. We'll talk about what tools to use, how best to use them, and do some hands-on work to get you started. Nov. 23. More info.

The New Publishing: Digital and Self-publishing in the DIY Era. Have you been toiling away on a book manuscript, wondering what to do with it when you're finished? The good news is that the rise of digital publishing gives you more options than ever. In this one-day workshop, publishing veterans Jesse Finkelstein and Trena White will help you navigate the constantly shifting self-publishing landscape. These two could write an e-tome about what they know. It's the perfect last chapter to a solid fall lineup of Tyee Master Classes. Nov. 30. More info.

See you next month! But don't delay registering because Tyee Master Classes fill up fast. [Tyee]
