Tyee Critic’s Choice: Pastoring a Shrinking Church in ‘First Reformed’
Tyee Critic’s Choice: Pastoring a shrinking church in First Reformed.
Fingernail-sized baby Western toads migrate each year from the B.C. wetlands where they were born to the forest where they live. But cutting between are often highways, and drivers have no idea this tiny world exists.
Last summer, The Tyee examined an underground toad tunnel in Chilliwack to prevent young toadlets from becoming roadkill.
Production on a 30- to 40-minute documentary called Toad People is underway to capture the journey of the few stepping in to save these toadlets. Many physically transport toadlets in buckets to ensure they survive their highway crossing.
The filmmakers, who are crowdfunding the project, want the public to understand the struggle of these animal advocates in B.C., one of only two provinces in Canadian with no endangered species law. This video is a peek at their work so far, with sad footage of post-accident toadlets breathing their last.
