Well, that escalated quickly.
Last Thursday, The Tyee's federal election reporting fund surged past its $50,000 goal with four days still left on the clock. We were floored by this response, and inspired to begin delivering Tyee-style coverage on critical issues leading up to the election.
With the campaign deadline approaching, we decided to stretch our goal, dream big, and aim to raise $75,000 by midnight tonight. Anything raised passed our original goal will support even more fearless election reporting.
Over the weekend, we watched with amazement as The Tyee's support network expanded across the country in real time. Over 1,000 Canadian readers have pledged, reaching well beyond our B.C. roots.
For 10 years The Tyee made its name covering B.C. news with a ferocity and attention rarely matched by other outlets. In 2013, we asked our readers to help us launch Tyee National, and you pitched in over $100,000 for an Ottawa correspondent and a pool of national commentators. Since then, we hired Jeremy Nuttall, who regularly breaks national news you won't see anywhere else.
We are buoyed by the cross-Canada support readers have pledged this time around. From Dawson City, Yukon to Belfast, Prince Edward Island, and all the way to Bar Beach, Australia, readers are showing us they want our independent, unmuzzled team of reporters to dig deep on our government's record and the major issues Canadians face this election.
If you haven't already, there is still time to join this campaign and support independent federal election coverage. Join us before midnight tonight and help up give Canada the kind of election reporting it deserves.
