Help Us Make The Tyee Better

Do you have a few minutes to complete our readership survey?

We're open to all schools of thought.

By now, you may have received an e-mail from us inviting you to participate in our 2008 Readership Survey. But if you haven't, or haven't yet had time to take the survey, we'd really appreciate just 10 minutes of your time to tell us what you think about The Tyee.

Your opinions and ideas matter a great deal to us, and will help us get a clearer picture of our readership and, in turn, allow us to give you a better online news magazine.

As a way of saying thank you (and to make this more interesting), all who complete the survey will be entered into a draw for the following prizes:

  • $100 gift certificate to a book store of your choice (one prize)
  • $100 worth of carbon offset credits from Offsetters, covering five tonnes of carbon dioxide -- the average amount of C02 emitted per Canadian in one year (more on this below) (one prize)
  • Five new release CDs from Mint Records (more on this below) (five prizes)
  • An organic cotton Tyee tote bag (25 prizes)

The survey can be completed online in five to 10 minutes. Should you encounter any technical issues or questions related to the survey, please contact McAllister Opinion Research at contact@mcallister-research.com.

Note that this survey is strictly for research purposes. Survey findings will be reported only in aggregate form and individual respondents cannot be identified. All responses are strictly anonymous and confidential. Your contact information will NOT be shared or sold.

Thanks for your time and feedback.

And here's a bit more information about our prizes:

Offsetters is Canada's top provider of high quality solutions for individuals and companies seeking to address their climate impact. It has been recognized as the best in Canada by the Pembina Institute and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Mint Records' prize packs include the following CDs: The Choir Practice -- s/t; The Pack A.D. -- Tintype; Vancougar -- Canadian Tuxedo, Carolyn Mark -- Nothing Is Free, and Immaculate Machine -- Fables. [Tyee]

    Survey

Already done - thanks for the opportunity.

    Quick questions:
    1) is there no longer a character limit on posts - or has it just been increased significantly?
    2) are you not closing stories after 5 days as was your policy in the past?
    3) why do you close the Hook articles so quickly?

    Thanks David.

Thanks for the questions. We recently upgraded the software that handles comments on our site (Drupal) and haven't finished restoring some of the earlier controls. However...

We will limit length of posts again. We think it makes the threads more readable and encourages posters to be succinct.

We will be closing stories after 5 days again.

We close the Hook articles after two days because there are so many of them -- 5 to ten a day. Imagine trying to moderate 50 open threads at any one time. We just don't have the people to keep that up.

    Thanks again David

Makes sense to me...I like the length limits and 5 days is okay too. I was just surpised to note many articles were staying open longer than usual this past week or so.

I would suggest you publicize the parameters a little more - it might make people more involved.

I understand the limitations with the Hook but it's good to know what the timeline is too.

    Another question

    Why ditch the HTML shortcuts?
