Passionate about sustainable land use? Don’t miss this event, full of inspiring leaders in the field.

Tyee Staff 22 Aug 2016TheTyee.ca

Are you ready, lovers of sustainable land use? Not to mention planners, architects, researchers, students, professors, biologists and so many more? We know you’re well represented in The Tyee’s readership, whatever your definition of “sustainable land use lover” might be.

We’re thrilled to announce the sixth Land Awards Gala takes place on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 in Vancouver. And The Tyee wants to send two of you there — for free!

Enter here!

The Tyee is pleased to be a media partner for the third year running, and we have a $350 pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader.

Prepare your swankiest duds. Pair them, perhaps, with your steel-toed work boots or your nicest pair of community gardening/organic farming gumboots (dusted off, of course).

You’ll be in stimulating, engaged, passionate company.

What are the Land Awards?

The Real Estate Foundation of BC’s Land Awards celebrate initiatives that demonstrate leadership, innovation and collaboration in sustainable land use in British Columbia. The awards highlight dynamic, forward-thinking people and organizations — leaders in creating more resilient, healthy communities and natural environments.

There are three Land Awards, which recognize the achievement of organizations in the non-profit, public and private sectors. There is also a Land Champion Award, which recognizes an individual’s lifetime achievements. Winners will be announced at the gala.

Celebrate great work. Be entertained. Eat and drink.

In addition to enjoying stimulating company and learning about incredible projects and people, you and a guest will be entertained, wined and dined.

This year’s gala is being emceed by Steve Patterson, host of CBC Radio One’s wildly successful The Debaters. If you’re a fan of the show’s combination of “facts and funny,” you’ll be in your element.

Guests will also enjoy a cocktail reception and a sustainable three-course dinner with wine. In addition to the awards presentation, the event will also include a silent auction, entertainment and an after party.

Tell us more of the food, you say? Expect a sustainable menu with a plant-based dinner and a mix of vegetarian, fish and meat canapes at the cocktail reception and after party. Whenever possible, meal ingredients will be sourced from local farmers and food producers.

Interested yet? Enter here for your chance at a pair of tickets. Contest ends midnight, Monday, Aug. 29.

(If you don’t want to wait to find out if you’ve won tickets, you can buy tickets here, now. Tickets are $175/person, and there is a special rate for students and non-profits.)

If you’re curious about the winners of the last awards (the evening was emceed by The Tyee’s founding editor David Beers, with a keynote from Peter Mansbridge), go here to browse videos of the winners and nominees.

Good luck! [Tyee]
