Tyee Poll: What Themes Interest You in International Film?

We’re entering film festival season.

As the leaves begin to turn, the weather cools, and we focus on ways to stay occupied indoors, film festivals have adapted to let us stream groundbreaking cinema from our living rooms (with some regional restrictions).

The Vancouver International Film Festival launches Sept. 24, and can be viewed anywhere in B.C., from Prince Rupert to Victoria (you can enter our contest to win tickets here.) The Toronto International Film Festival starts Sept. 10 (streaming countrywide), and the Halifax-based FIN Atlantic International Film Festival starts Sept. 17, reaching all of Atlantic Canada.

International film helps us maintain awareness of the world beyond our borders — all the more critical during the pandemic as we stay close to home. With this in mind, we want to ask:

What themes interest you in international film?

(We know these answers are broad, so please tell us more in the comments. We’re particularly interested to hear how film has provided new understandings through different regional perspectives.)

* Please note that all poll answers will be publicly viewable, but anonymous.

Please note that Tyee Barometer polls are only intended as a quick and engaging non-scientific snapshot of our readers' opinions on various topics that fit with The Tyee's very broad editorial mandate. They are not intended to be seen as a representative sampling of BC opinion.
