Tyee Poll: Are You Housing Stressed?

It's not a problem you can leave at home because, well, the problem is housing.

Whether a renter or owner, if you spend more than 30 per cent of your before-tax income on shelter, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) would say you're in "core housing need" and paying more than you can afford for your home.

The 30 per cent should include other costs, such as utilities, property taxes, and strata fees.

Canadians on average spend about 43 per cent of every dollar earned on shelter, according to a survey by money manager BlackRock Inc. That's almost more than any other developed country's citizens, except our friends in Sweden and the Netherlands.

We're curious to know how you compare with the average Canadian. And please note that Tyee poll results are anonymous.
