Tyee Poll: Who's Waking Up to Coal in This Year's Stocking?

by Nich Johansen

British Columbia had an eventful year.

After a snoozy start, the Vancouver election came to a close with a flurry of attack ads, leaked secret recordings, mayoral apologies, and a lawsuit. We think someone maybe won at the end of it as well.

Students got an extra three weeks of summer as Jim Iker and the Peter Fassbender/Christy Clark duo traded shots for months. Think of the children!

Energy concerns were also front and centre for much of the year, with Christy Clark managing to irk those for and against liquefied natural gas development at the same time. It takes a special kind of politician to not appeal to anyone.

Burnaby Mountain got its 15 minutes of fame when Kinder Morgan began surveying the area in an attempt to run a pipeline through it. Arrests were made and charges were thrown out, due to a misunderstanding over just how you work those newfangled GPS systems.

So who's waking up to a big chunk of coal (or maybe bitumen?) in their stocking on the morning of the 25th?
