Tyee Poll: Did BC Teachers Get a Fair Deal?

But despite a large majority (86 per cent of voting teachers) in favour, there was vocal disappointment and even anger over the contract shared through social media and in the news in the days leading up to the vote.

As Tyee education reporter Katie Hyslop found last week, compared to what teachers were asking for before the strike started last June, the deal leaves teachers behind their peers across Canada in wages, with little ground gained in terms of class size and composition, and specialist teacher to student ratios.

After years of acrimony between the parties, however, many teachers are simply relieved about the deal, and BC Teachers' Federation President Jim Iker called it a good start.
