We asked for the best of self-propelled photography, and your great images rolled in.
Entries to The Tyee's Bike to Work Week photo contest, in partnership with Momentum Magazine, far exceeded our expectations, with over 100 photos submitted. After much deliberation, our esteemed panel of judges has selected three winners and nine honourable mentions.
Coming in first place is Carol Carsco for her photo titled Tranquility. Carol will be the recipient of a Corsa City Bike from Norco, complete with lights, fenders, rack, Axiom panniers, basket and helmet.
In second place is Alison Dendoff for her photo, Speed Demon, and in third come Stephen and Tricia McGrath for Dressy Biking. They will be the recipients of gift bags, courtesy of The Tyee and Momentum Magazine.

This year's Bike to Work Week, which ran from May 26 to June 1, was the most successful ever, with 5,879 registered participants, including 1,767 new bike commuters. Although bicycle commutes comprise only two per cent of trips made daily in Vancouver, with rising gas prices and a concern for the environmental impact of automobiles, more people are cycling to work every day. Bike to Work Week is a joint effort to promote a fast, cheap, ethical and fun way to get to work each day.
If the results of our photo contest are any indication, citizens all across British Columbia are discovering the joy of cycling to work. Ultimately, Bike to Work Week should be seen not as an isolated event, but a starting point toward cycling to work every day. Take it from us: biking to work makes a real difference, especially in your glutes! ![]()
