For US$2,500 you could own a 2010 Olympic torch. At least, that’s the going rate so far on eBay.
“This is NOT a Replica, NOT a Model,” reads the product description. “Grab this opportunity to obtain such a rare collectible, in excellent condition "still warm" while the torch relay is still in progress!!”
The 2010 Olympic flame was lit just over a week ago in the ruins of Olympia. From there, it went on a seven day historic journey through Greece before touching down in Victoria last Friday.
It's now on day 3 of a 106-day cross-Canada trip.
The torch for sale was lit and carried in Greece, according to the description. The seller – who is presumably Greek and goes by the name “douramakos” – claims to have been dealing Olympics memorabilia for 25 years.
“You can rest assured that all items offered are 100% original,” the seller brags.
There’s been one bid so far on the used 2010 torch, which comes with the original bag.
Manufacturer Bombardier was tasked with making 12,000 torches for the cross-Canada relay.
