Canwest/Ipsos poll puts Harper far ahead

A poll reported on Monday evening suggests the Conservative Party of Canada is well ahead of the Liberals, while the New Democrats have fallen well behind.

The Ipsos Reid poll, commissioned by Canwest News Service and Global National and published by the Vancouver Sun, indicates that Stephen Harper's Conservatives enjoy the support of 39 percent of committed voters.

The poll gives the Liberals 30 percent, up two points over an August 21 poll. The NDP is at 12 percent, down 2 points, as are the Greens at 8 percent.

The Bloc Quebecois has 9 percent of the vote, while 7 percent are undecided.

    yeah Iggy

is running the same campaign M.O. James said she would - civil, making the debate tone down, blah blah that killed her.

He better start showing exactly what he wants to do about the deficit or he is gone, I am afraid.

He said no new taxes and would slay the deficit but the only way that is possible is if he legalizes pot.

Any idea on the chances of that happening..?

    Iggy

Who cares if Iggy wants an election or not?

He doesn't have enough seats to stop one or force one.

If that poll can be believed, and let's face it it can't because its a Can-West poll, then Harper would ride to victory with a huge majority.

And then he could do to Canada what Campbell has done to BC, bankrupt it for decades.

    Another Rogue poll by

Another Rogue poll by Canwest and Ipso's.

On Aug 27 they had another rogue poll that showed Harper much higher than everyone else. http://www.vancouversun.com/Harper+Tories+open+lead+over+Liberals+Poll/1923723/story.html

Ipso's has a history of pro conservative push polling so I would take this one with a grain of salt..

    About The Hook

As British Columbia and other jurisdictions consider allowing online voting, can it be made secure enough that people will trust it? Will it encourage more people to vote? But if something goes wrong, will it further erode people's confidence in their democracies? And what role is the media likely to play in shaping the debate?

These are among the issues to be considered at a May 26 discussion that Fair Voting BC and PartyX are hosting at The Hive in Vancouver. I'll be on the panel, along with UBC Law's Fathima Cader and SFU computer scientist Steve Wolfman. The results and recommendations are to inform the two organizations' public positions on online voting.

Meanwhile join me and other contributors on The Hook as we bring you the latest from B.C. and across Canada.
