After three years of controversy, the World Trade University in Chilliwack has vanished. The B.C. Liberal government is philosophical about it.
According to a December 18 story in the Chilliwack Progress, WTU has left town. Its building will soon welcome a new tenant, probably Canadian Border Services.
Early in November, the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of B.C. asked the Liberals to rescind their 2005 law creating the WTU.
Robert Clift, Executive Director of CUFA BC, said: “In three years, this institution hasn’t been able to design a viable degree program and now its website has disappeared.”
Actually, the website is still up. Visit it here.
The Progress story quotes Chilliwack-Sumas Liberal MLA John Les, who backed WTU, as saying: “The only way you never have a failure, is to never attempt anything.”

Disappearing acts
Speaking of these, where is Mr. Les these days? I seem to recall he got caught with his fingers in some pie or other. Same for our former Minister of Finance Mr. Collins. He has never resurfaced after the Basi/Virk case erupted.
Seems like we never get to hold these people accountable as they are able to bury the cases against them in procedural wrangling & clouds of obfuscation.

Where do we find these sort of guys ?
I rated John Les as the most stupid man who ever sent me a email on a subject he should have been well informed. His quetion blew off my socks. and he was getting paid for his services and I was working for free.

John Les
Is still a member of the BC Liberals,Les gets his full paycheque and yes,he is still under investigation on corruption, influence peddling.
What John Les was doing was...through numbered companies he was buying land that was zoned for farming or that was part of the agricultural land reserve, the people who owned the land were unable to get the zoning changed,in others words you couldn`t build many home or condominiums complexes on them.
Now bring in John Les, John Les buys the properties and magically the zoning gets changed, les then with his brothers would build many units and make a fortune.
A simple but obvious scam, anyone of you could make a fortune if you could buy land in ALR and magically change the zoning.
And this was the top cop(John Les was the solicitor general)you don`t have to look far, corruption is everywhere in the Campbell cabinet.
unfortunately like BC rail, like ken Dobell, gary Collins, patrick Kinsella,Giles,Alcan hydro deal, all the P3s,ICBC,pay raises to Jessica Mcdonald 348.000.00 plus expenses per year.
Campbell does what he wants, when, where, rewards his freinds with your dollars and there is no more law or media watchdog`s anymore, BC is Campbell`s piggybank!

Les is too much
Mr. Les’ first outing, since the discovery of the tip of his own iceberg, was in his beloved, something’s in the water, Chilliwack - for a native function. True politician, it was his first ever native function to my knowledge. His next appearance was for gravel removal, one of the few things he has ever pushed (family real estate kept him busy). Makes me wonder who in his family is in the gravel business.
Glad I’m not the only one who despises the fraud. About a decade ago, as mayor of Chilliwack, he flat out rejected Valley Rail and transportation needs because he didn’t want Chilliwack to become a “bedroom community” (wtf). Unfortunately, his commute to Victoria was never an issue.

Chilliwack Fiefdom
Like many self-serving, pro-development members of the Campbell regime, Les learned his trade in the municipal field. Chilliwack was his personal fiefdom for many years.
And like many pro-development local politicians, he found ways to manipulate or terminate bureaucrats who dared to enlighten him about laws and ethics.
