The Hook: Political news, freshly caught

BC Ferries releases 23-page list of big earners

Some 900 British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. employees earn over $75,000 a year.

This according to a 23-page document the government-owned private company released today under the freedom of information process. The Vancouver Sun filed the request.

President and CEO David Hahn topped B.C. Ferries earners, receiving just under $1 million in total earnings and taxable benefits.

Documents filed with SEDAR previously showed Hahn received $1,128,139 in the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2010 and $1,034,680 in the preceding year.

Fourteen B.C. Ferries employees are getting over $200,000 a year in earnings and benefits, according to today's release. Another seven who have since left the company were also making that much.

B.C. Ferries also released a three-page list of former employees receiving more than $75,000 a year from the company.

The company also released records related to an Aug. 3, 2010 collision at the Mayne Island ferry dock.
