Campbell 'treating us like criminals': Morton

Supporters and members of the Western Canada Wilderness Committee (WCWC) who tried to present Premier Gordon Campbell with a wheelbarrow full of petitions were locked out of Vancouver's World Trade Centre on May 6.

The petitions included 33,000 signatures: 20,000 from people who demand the closure of open-net cage salmon feedlots, and 13,000 from people who want marine feedlots removed from wild salmon migration routes.

The group of roughly 30 assembled at Canada Place Wednesday. After a short presentation from the Wilderness Committee's Geoff Senichenko and salmon activist Alexandra Morton, the group continued to the World Trade Centre.

There they were met by a security guard who told them that he would deliver the petitions to the premier, but refused to let them in.

“I am accepting the petitions on behalf of the premier,” said the guard, who wouldn’t disclose his name. After receiving complaints from the crowd he responded, “There is no one upstairs for that.”

A second security guard emerged from the building confirmed that the group would not be allowed into the building.

Morton expressed her dismay about not being able to deliver the petition.

“This is 13,000 signatures and he won’t even allow me into his office to put this on his desk… he is treating us like criminals,” Morton said.

“This really surprises me,” said Senichenko. “This should be a public building, government offices are here and it should at least be open to concerned citizens communicating with their government.”

Kim Hickey, who is responsible for tenant services at the Vancouver World Trade Centre, said “We don’t usually comment on these kinds of things.”

    Typical

All over the Province, if you don't agree with Gordo, you don't get to talk to him. Isn't this typical?

    If it was

a wheelbarrow full of money, he would have opened the door wide. Signatures on a petition? We all know he doesn't flinch at them.

Your vote is your signature on May 12. The once in a four year chance to rid BC of this cancer.

    He does the same everywhere.

He comes in avoiding protesters, gives a short speech to his fans and then goes to a private place to rub shoulders with the inner circle of well-to-do liberals that make the big donations.

    Duh!

    A prank.

If a candidate is stopping by a coffee shop is the coffee shop obliged to take a wheel-burrow (sic) full of whatever?

If this silly news-clip is what the Tyee considers a last minute putch it's a bit childish.

    Yeah DUH

WE have a premier who doesn't give a shit what the people of the province think about his policies...DUH is right.

These turkeys are avoiding all-candidates meetings and radio appearances all over the province - why would anyone expect them to be courteous to thoughts of several thousand voters?

Maybe they're afraid of the Swine Flu!

I'd say they aren't just DUH, they're DUMB.

Where were the big name environmentalists?

So, WCWC wanted to present the Premier with petitions opposing open-net salmon farms.

The David Suzuki Foundation has written extensively on the dangers of these operations. Why was no one from the DSF in attendance? Could it be that Jim Hoggan didn't want to embarass the Foundation's new best friend and number one patron?

    Surprised?

I'm surprised the activists are surprised that the Premier won't see them. He doesn't care what you and your petitioners think and never will.

Well it seems it happens with both parties

Yesterday i attended the event at Jenny Kwans office to attempt again to speak to the NDP leader Carole james about my "FAKED" heart test. They were nice to me when i arrived but behind my back they called the police and had them show up and babysit me for over an hour. They refused to let me in the building, and I was invited by the campaign. Although I am sure the invitaion was an oversight.
Now the facebook page of Jenny Kwan (NDP candidate) has engaged in CENSORSHIP on her facebook page. Neither of the parties can be trusted with the saftey and economic concerns of everyone in this province. Each party is there for their own agendas.

    Again, no Suzuki, no Berman!

Whats up with these people? They are so far up Gordon Campbells ass, they haven't seen light in months. Where is your "environmentalism" now, you back-stabbing cheats? Wow, I never thought I would see the day that David Suzuki would turn his back on the environment for pure greed! I guess the only reason he EVER made films about the environment was to make a fast buck and he would have been quite comfortable making films about killing a species off to get around regulations protecting it. The only question would be "whats going to make me more money?".

The same can be said for Zephorah Berman, and her fake environmental group. If either of these low-lifes gave a damn about the environment they would be speaking up right now. Not a word, not a wimper, just silence as their sugar-daddy rapes BC's environment.

When this election is over, I think David Suzuki and Zephorah Berman's groups should be targetted by real environmentalists and totally destroyed financially. Neither of them deserve even the smallest consideration by the BC public. Perhaps they could have been forgiven for believing Gordon Campbell and his so-called Liberals are actually Liberals, but, after all the leaks about Gordon Campbells environmental disasters they have still kept quiet. Not a word. They have sealed their own fate! No more support for them, they will be on the receiving end of protests just like Exxon as they so justly deserve.

Its no surprise Suzuki and Berman have disappeared

Gregor Robertson's crew clawed back the Hollyhockers as their overt attack on the NDP led by Carole started to blow back.

The celeb enviros directed the hollyhock leadership institute have overplayed their hand. Clearly providing Gordo with a green screen doesn't wash. Even if your attempting a greenwash.

In fact the tide started reversing as the repulsion grew with these tactics and now there best bet is to sit down and shut up and hope that there green smear of this election still delivers the results it was intended to which was to stop Carole from screwing up the power play between independent power, the hollyhockers and campbells team.

This election will be the one that rings the death knell for partisan games as people are fed up with being swindled and deceived.

Well, I don't know about Berman (but then, does anybody?) but it's pretty obvious Susuki lost his way when he discovered that the Wisdom Of The Elders doesn't shed much light on CO2 loading or FN participation in RoR projects.

    Shrewd move by Robertson's crew

    politico
Gregor Robertson's crew clawed back the Hollyhockers as their overt attack on the NDP led by Carole started to blow back.

Obviously Robertson's NDP associates realized that if he didn't pull back on the throttle he would be seriously imperilling his own chances of becoming NDP leader and Premier some day.

Some in the NDP got seriously panicked after Carole did so very well in 2005 and have been acting in various counterproductive ways since then, all in an effort to make sure she doesn't become Premier. She was chosen to be a caretaker only, and because she's not an order taker the careerists from the John Pollard-Sue Hammell wing of the NDP knew they couldn't experience true happiness with her as Premier.

And besides all that, it must be a delicate balancing act within Vision as between New Democrats and Liberals, made all the more complex by the presence of Brad "McCarthy" Zubyk.

The Hollyhock Leadership Institute is apparently undergoing a bit of a recession adjustment, according to its website:

    Quote:
Due to a number of factors, we have made the difficult decision to ramp down the Hollyhock Leadership Institute. Our work under the organizational name of HLI will be continuing until June 1st 2009, upon which the Vancouver office will close. This will not affect Hollyhock Centre, which will continue to run a great roster of skills-training programs and conferences in Vancouver and on Cortes Island. Visit www.hollyhock.ca to register for trainings and programs. Scholarships are still available through HLI, but please apply before June 1st.

    http://www.hollyhockleadership.org/aboutus/index_html

Now, if it's true that the Institute has experienced a disappointing fall-off in business, requiring an unpleasant reorganization and consolidation, then surely it follows that the nicest thing that could happen for the Hollyhock leaders is a sudden wave of new clients. Right?

Okay, ... is it possible that a happy, intimate and fertile relationship with the Government of British Columbia, its many agencies, boards and commissions, universities and colleges, Crown Corporations and Health Authorities, etc., could be the source for a whole new wave of paying customers??? Just thought I'd ask.

Here's my quiz question for today. Who will be at BC Liberal HQ getting interviewed on election night? Mark Jaccard? Nancy Olewiler? John Robinson? David Suzuki? Tzeporah Berman? Matt Horne? Which ones will show and which ones will demur, and when will they show, before or after results become finalized?

    About The Hook

Have you noticed all the "game-changing" in the news recently?

Premier Christy Clark's plan to build two liquified natural gas export facilities in B.C.? "Game changer."

Former ICBC president Robyn Allan's damning report on the economic risks of Northern Gateway? "Game changer."

Mitt Romney's new debate coach? The coming Nintendo console? Kickstarter?

    All "game-changers," my friends.

Are we on the cusp of some serious status-quo shake-up, or something? This week, count on The Tyee to scope out and debunk the latest game changers -- whatever that means -- here in B.C. and beyond. -- Robyn Smith
