BC Politics

Vaughn Palmer enters the blogosphere

Vaughn Palmer, longtime provincial-politics commentator for the Vancouver Sun, has begun a blog in anticipation of the May 12 election.

Running on the Sun's website, View from the Ledge already has several posts, including one on his being "linked" to the BC Rail affair.

Palmer also discusses the roles being played by the Greens and Conservatives in the impending election, and NDP leader Carole James's response to charges that one of her candidates once made an anti-semitic comment.

Crawford Kilian is a contributing editor of The Tyee.

    Bah

Palmer has nothing to say anymore. He's running on fumes. All you need to know about Palmer you can hear on Bill Good, the three of those dinosaurs, which includes Baldrey just go for a stroll every Friday morning on the radio. Its a wonder anyone pays them. They have nothing to contribute with the exception of glossing over BC Liberal shenanigans.

There are times that I think

There are times that I think that Palmer is on the Liberal's payroll, but at times,to cover his tracks, he does give some criticism. Like the time that he commented that the cost overruns on the convention centre was no big deal. I could give other examples but I just don't have the time.

Can't think of why he'd bother.

Most of them are so discredited that one wonders why they still get ink.

    Democratic Trust

    About The Hook

As British Columbia and other jurisdictions consider allowing online voting, can it be made secure enough that people will trust it? Will it encourage more people to vote? But if something goes wrong, will it further erode people's confidence in their democracies? And what role is the media likely to play in shaping the debate?

These are among the issues to be considered at a May 26 discussion that Fair Voting BC and PartyX are hosting at The Hive in Vancouver. I'll be on the panel, along with UBC Law's Fathima Cader and SFU computer scientist Steve Wolfman. The results and recommendations are to inform the two organizations' public positions on online voting.

Meanwhile join me and other contributors on The Hook as we bring you the latest from B.C. and across Canada.
