Drink and Laugh at America on Thursday

First ever 'Tyee'd Talks' event will feature Canada Party satirists pitching their takeover of the White House. With special guest Raffi!

David Beers is editor of The Tyee.

Here on The Tyee recently we introduced you to the comedic duo of Chris Cannon and Brian Calvert. They're the guys who formed the fake Canada Party with the modest aim of running for U.S. president, winning, and then from their White House bastion staging the mother of all interventions to cure our neighbour's seriously messed up political culture.

As they declare in their Canada Party Manifesto: "Devoted to restoring America to its former glory, the Canada Party will soon have the whole world chanting 'Yes We Canada!'"

Our story about Chris and Brian attracted so much attention we decided to create a Tyee live event allowing them to pitch their Canada Party aspirations straight to you.

We're giving you the opportunity to drink in their wisdom, drink in a beer, drink in another beer, and if you'd like, spit back questions at the two candidates.

If you'd rather just drink and leave the hard questions to others, we've lined up the ideal celebrity panel including:

Investor Sandy Garossino, hard bitten ex-prosecutor;
Vision Vancouver councillor Heather Deal, hard bitten political pro;
Children's advocate and famed singer Raffi, hard bitten by ankle biters;
Writer, broadcaster Steve Burgess, overbite fixed at age 16.

We're calling this thing:

"Hey America, Let Canada Drive for a While:
Our Neighbour Is Having an Election Mental Breakdown. Can We Help?"

It's going down at WISE Hall in East Vancouver this coming Thursday, Sept. 27. Starts at 7:00 p.m. Come for music, laughs, seriously bent political proposals (and did we mention drinks?).

Yours truly will be moderator and pledge to be in moderately good humour.

You can pre-purchase tickets by clicking here.

The Canada Party guys are fresh off a swing tour through New York, Toronto and other points east, rolling too fast even to stop and lend a hand when they whizzed by Sarah Palin's bus broken down by the side of the freeway.

Co-sponsored by Douglas & McIntyre, publishers of America, But Better: The Canada Party Manifesto. Authors Cannon and Calvert will be signing copies of their best-seller in the making, which you will be able to acquire at the event.

If you're one of those swing voter types susceptible to manipulative television political ads, watch a Canada Party official sound bite here:

So don't wait. Grab your ticket now. To do so, or get more info, click here. [Tyee]
